About James Blick

Where do I start? No, just kidding… my story is neither long nor complicated. Born in New Zealand. Worked as a lawyer. Quit that. Worked as a production assistant on TV commercials. Quit that. Moved to France to meet French women. Met a Spaniard. Moved to Madrid with Spaniard. Taught English. Quit that. Moved back to New Zealand with Spaniard. Directed TV commercials and a short film. Quit that. Married Spaniard (my smart and beautiful wife Yoly). Moved to Madrid.

And now… co-founder of Devour Tours, YouTube divasometime travel and food writer. And definitely won’t be quitting any of that.

  2. I read about your food tours. I am very interested in doing the Spain tour but will not be in Spain until October, 2016. I will be in Prague the end of May and would like to know if you could recommend a food tour in that city. Thank you. I appreciate any recommendations you could offer.

    • Hello Bernadette,

Thanks for your message! We’d love to have you on a food tour in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville or Malaga in October. You can find links to all the cities we offer tours at http://www.devourspain.com. And for Prague, why not try Eating Prague Food Tours. I’ve heard great things!

  3. Hi James!

Fellow foodie and entrepreneur here, starting a food related business in Spain. I will be in Madrid in October, can I buy you a drink?

  4. Hi James,
A good friend of mine recently took a Devour Barcelona tour and loved it. One of her group’s organizers, Amy, took the Devour Madrid tour with you and said you were “extraordinary”. We (2 couples) will be in Madrid from 11/11 through 11/13. Might you be available for a food tour one of those nights/days? Please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you!

    • Hello Barbara,

Many thanks for your email and your interest in tours! Please thank Amy for the recommendation. We would love to have you on a tour while you’re in Madrid. I’m not giving tours anymore, as I’ve moved into a management role. But I am in charge of making sure the small team of guides we work with are the best in the business, so I can assure you that if you book a tour with us your guide will be amazing. If you’d like to check out our tours, you can do so here: https://madridfoodtour.com. Please let me know any questions about any of the tours (best to get me at james at devourspain.com) and I hope we’re able to welcome you to Madrid next month!

      Kind regards,

  6. Hi James,

in one of your videos you are ‘busting the myth’ about Churro. Where is this place that you are eating Churro? The same place was also recently in a U.K. Travel programme but the name of the place was never mentioned. I’m looking to discover the name of this place as my wife & I have just booked up to visit Madrid next summer for our tenth wedding anniversary & we’ve never found good churro whenever we’ve visited other parts of Spain before. Thanks

  7. We followed your recommends when in Madrid for 4 days last week and every single place blew us away. Taqueria de Ciudad and Vinoteca Bistrot 2 major stand outs. Such a great resource!
